OUR MISSION

"I discovered my love for circus arts in high school after a friend introduced it to me. I immediately fell absolutely in love with aerial silks. A few years later, I added aerial hoop to my belt. Circus provides me with an endless amount of inspiration, expression, and joy. I applied for the Great Plains Circus Scholarship a year ago when I stumbled across it while searching for studios around me. Finding out I had been chosen as a recipient was thrilling. It meant that I was able to continue with my aerial education while studying for my kinesiology degree at the same time without being concerned about money. It also took out the pressure of progressing quickly. I was able to relax while in class, take my time, and listen to my body without feeling like I was wasting my money by resting. Classes became an even better opportunity to study and interact with other artists than before. I’ve made so many meaningful connections with people in the community that I never thought I’d have the chance to. With the aid of the scholarship, I have been able to take private lessons, group classes, and participate in open practice times to improve my skills as a performer.  "

"Being on scholarship has allowed me to pursue circus training while attending university full time. As a STEM major, I spend the majority of my time studying with little left aside to work. With the scholarship I have been given the opportunity to take my art as seriously as my science, and it feels great to be acknowledged and supported in all of my passions, not just the ones society has deemed more worthy. I appreciate everyone who supports those of us who are going through hard times, and I hope to one day be able to pay it back."
